Textbook Adoption

Good Afternoon Murphy Families!

Our textbook committee has been very busy the last few months narrowing down the choices of publishers for both ELA (K-8) and Math (K-8) for a possible textbook adoption for the 2019-2020 school year. The Governing Board/Receiver will display the textbooks that are considered for adoption in the Boardroom 60 days prior to the finalized adoption. We currently have 2 ELA and 2 Math programs ready for you to review and to provide input, if you'd like.

To provide input, please email your comments to textbook@msdaz.org from now until March 29, 2019.  The boardroom will be open Monday-Friday from 8am-4pm to view the materials.

A tax credit is a dollar-for-dollar reduction in state taxes that are owed. In general, if you make a tax credit contribution and you owe on your state taxes, in most cases, the amount of your tax credit contribution will be deducted from your tax bill. Garcia Elementary Relocation Information

In light of the new information recently shared with the school board and parents and to avoid any misinformation provided, this communication is being shared:

  • New leadership at Murphy Elementary School District is committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment for students and staff. We are committed to ensure students are first in all decisions that are made.

  • Newly appointed superintendent, Dr. Goodwin, was recommended through the state receivership because of his experience working with troubled school systems. One of the first major tasks was to complete a building inspection of all of schools. As a result of noted mold issues, an environmental company was contracted for further testing. The results showed no significant mold or air quality issues at Garcia Elementary. However, the environmental testing noted potential elevated levels of lead dust in 6 classrooms at Garcia Elementary. As a precautionary measure, these 6 classrooms have be closed, and the occupied classes have been reassigned to other locations at Garcia School. A final environmental report is available. The district will take the necessary measures to ensure the well being of our students and staff.

  • Garcia is not closing, rather we are relocating the students to keep them in a safe environment where they can continue to learn and have enriching experiences.

  • Board members have been made aware of these findings and are in the process of determining what is best for our students’ safety until the issues are resolved.

  • Any new information regarding findings is available to the public. Parents were given information first hand; no one is left in the dark about any new updates.

  • Recently a call for proposals was sent out to identify a company to provide a child nutrition program. The schools will be serving the students the required nutrients approved by State and Federal laws, which is no different than what is currently provided. The outside company would be able to provide quality foods because of the ability to purchase in high volumes.

  • District employees are given the opportunity to apply for positions, with better benefits and a high chance of employment. A cost effective measure for the district.

Dr. Goodwin has been working to make sure all issues identified are being addressed as quickly as possible. All current movements occurring are to ensure that students and staffs have a healthy and safe environment to attend school without any risks. Under this new leadership we are focused on making Murphy Elementary School District a safe environment for students and staff to attend. To see full report Click Here
