Title: Under the Sea

Recommended Grade Level(s): K-2 (Correlates to the Kindergarten Reading Curriculum)

Goals: Students will be able to explain and illustrate types of life that are in the ocean.

Materials: Smartboard, Somewhere in the Ocean by Jennifer Ward, paper, drawing materials.

Introduction to the Topic: Ask the students what they can find in the ocean. Put their ideas on the Smartboard. Tell the students that they can learn more by reading books in the library.

Procedures:

Read Somewhere in the Ocean. You can put the pictures on the Smartboard so that the students can see the pictures and words better.

Ask the students about some creatures they saw in the book. You can even go into the gallery and pull out some pictures of fish and ocean creatures.

Have the students draw some of the creatures in the ocean and then cut them out.

Students can get into groups and count how many pictures they have as they do in the book.

Assessment Options:

When students are in groups, they can show the other students their pictures.

Create a display for the students' work. You can even cut butcher paper to make it look like the ocean.
