Title: The Reference Section

Recommended Grade Level(s): 4-6 (Can be adjusted for older grades)

Goal(s): Students will be able to use various books located in the reference section to find information.

Materials: Books, reference section worksheet and review sheet click to get reference section worksheet, click to get reference review sheet .

Introduction to the Topic: Show the students some different books that can be found in the reference section. Ask them what types of information they think might be found in them. Have them give topics of interest, and use the books to find the information.

Procedures:

Put a few reference books on each table. As students look through the books themselves to examine them, have them fill out the reference section worksheet.

Give the students a few minutes to look through the books, and then have them switch books with other tables until they have seen all of the books.

Assessment Options:

Have students complete the reference review sheet.

Create a reference section bingo game to play as a class.
