Goal(s): Students will be able to categorize books as fiction or nonfiction.
Materials: Smartboard, books, fiction and nonfiction worksheet click to get worksheet .
Introduction to the Topic: On the Smartboard, put up pictures that would be found in both fiction and nonfiction books. Have the students decide what is the difference between the pictures. Answer will be similar to real vs. fake, realistic vs. make believe.
Procedures:
Show both fiction and nonfiction books and decide as a class if they are fiction or nonfiction.
Discuss fiction and nonfiction in terms of real and make believe.

Pass out the fiction/nonfiction worksheet and have students practice independently.Assessment Options:
Work on review quizzes. Have students put a thumb up for fiction and a thumb down for nonfiction.
